I am a self-taught artist based in Cwmbran, exhibiting in London and South Wales, I paint both in watercolour and oil. Inspiration is derived through keen observation of the landscape around us (don't we all say that?) - in my case the Brecon Beacons, Black Mountains and the industrial heritage of Blaenafon and the eastern valleys of Gwent provide an endless source of subject matter.

I prefer compact, enclosed compositions rather than more expansive views. At the coast I will frequently turn my back on the sea to paint a beach café, a cluster of beach huts or an interesting rock formation.

In the countryside I prefer the complexity of trees and foliage to wide open spaces. In towns and cities I am drawn to bright colours, busy shop windows, people and street clutter such as road signs and chained up bicycles.

I can occasionally be seen sketching and painting "en plein air" in my favourite locations in South Wales and Dorset, but most works are completed in my home studio - which is actually the corner of the kitchen.
